Iraq: More Than An Insurgency
Petraeus' error is to impose a cookie cutter on Iraq.
After Napoleon fell from grace, Europe descended into turmoil.
Iraq should not be viewed as a place where there is instability; but the opposite -- where instability is spreading like Europe.
The Russians, unable to provide stability, withdrew.
The error is to pretend Iraq, like Europe, can be managed; yet, few in 1815 would imagine what Europe, beyond the turmoil, would become in the 21st Century.
Americas believe Iraq will have to be muddled through; the Iraqis are not satisfied with the mud.
