Harvard Westlake soon under receivership?

Reader tip: There is an Archive for the HW articles.

Some have already taken a look at the legal issues and the Harvard Westlake financials and are licking their chops.For some, it's only a matter of time before Harvard-Westlake is taken to the auction block.

It is curious when you look at the financials and the insurance, how quickly an institution can get wiped out.

It remains to be understood whether the litigation liabilities would exceed the existing coverage/policy limits; or whether a settlement would exceed both the policy limits of the insurance for both the institution and The Chronicle.

Yet, in the shadows, law firms and financial institutions are looking at the Harvard Westlake situation. Not because they necessarily have an interest in the outcome, but they're looking at whether the school would be a profitable investment once the litigation is over.

Financial institutions and marketing companies are looking at the situation and weighing their options:

  • What are the chances of a financial loss in litigation/settlement;

  • What would be a reasonable price to bid on HW should it go into receivership; and

  • How quickly can the funds be raised?
